Kid Rock Olena : Ranch Sorting Cow Horse

Kid Rock Olena’s cow horse background

“Kid Rock Olena” is another little horse I bought off the Mark Hollar. I was looking at about eight of his yearlings by “Kid Mecom Blue,” out of a “Rey Jay Hick” mare. Rey Jay Hick; he was good son-of-a-gun. I’ve shown against him and “Kid Mecom Blue”; the sire and the dame too.

I don’t know much about the mare that he came out of, but Mark kept trying to sell me some other horses there, and I couldn’t take my eye off of him. The way he stopped and turned around out there in that pen with all the other horses. I looked at all of them, but I couldn’t take my eye off him—just the way he naturally stops.

Info about Kid Rock Olena’s character and training

I’m looking forward to putting a lot of rides together in the next 90 to 120 days. He’s gonna, I think, be a real asset to our cow horse program. He just may be the one that I end up keeping to replace my big horse with. I just like his breeding and the natural stuff that you can’t put in a horse (that he has). You can put a lot of buttons on horses—and I do put buttons on them—but they gotta be a real cow horse too.

He’s been here a year, and we’re just now getting him saddled and going. I’m looking forward to seeing if he’s that next big horse.
